Good afternoon,
This week in the Year 3 classroom, we have been practising the 8 times tables. At first we thought that this would be tricky, but we have made fantastic progress. We have even learnt a few helpful phrases, tips and calculations to assist with our sums. The children have found a link between the 2, 4 and 8 times tables and how the multiples of 2 assist with the learning of the eights. They can now find equal groups, use arrays, find multiples and share, group and divide all by 8.
The English lessons built up to writing a full front page newspaper report. We haven’t yet caught the culprit, but with the reading of these reports and spreading the news the tear thief will be caught soon. The newspaper reports have contained information about the robbery, how clues were gathered and eyewitness statements.
We have
practised using the correct punctuation for direct quotes and synonyms for said.
In science this week, we have been investigating light sources. The children can identify natural and artificial light sources. Also in the classroom simple experiments were taking place to prove that we need light to see things and torches were used to see how dull or shiny materials are when a light source is shone directly at them. We also used torches with the same six materials to rank them in order of least reflective to most reflective. Our conclusions are that it is safest to wear white or bright coloured clothing rather than black in the evenings, as these colours reflect the most light.
