Week ending 27th September 2024

 Hello Year Three,

This week the children have learned about nutrition. They learned how to define a healthy meal and explain the nutrients and food groups the meal encompasses.

We have continued to work on place value and have been finding gaps in number lines. The children found this quite challenging especially when the start was not 0!

We have learned a new fable this week, 'The Lion and the Mouse.' We have written recounts of this story, discussed the moral and described the characters of the lion and the mouse. We are focusing on punctuation at the moment, particularly ensuring that sentence structure is evident throughout each piece of writing.

For our geography lesson we used maps to find mountain ranges and copied them onto our own maps using a key. We learned how mountains are formed and the names of different types of mountain. We noticed the proximity of the mountain ranges to the tetonic plates.

We will be making pencil cases this term, so this week the children chose their colours and have begun to start thinking about their designs.

We looked at feelings in PHSE and wrote about how we feel in different situations. We discussed how long difficult feelings last and how to distract ourselves when this occurs.

In our Spanish lesson we have begun to learn the numbers to twenty. The children are using Spanish every day now, to answer the register and order their lunch time meal. They are now familiar with basic greetings and are able to hold short conversations in Spanish.

NEXT WEEK

English

Next week we will be learning the story 'The Boy who cried Wolf.' The children will write a recount of the story, discuss the moral and perform a role play to the class. They will complete a comprehension and write character descriptions. We will also be focussing on punctuation, particularly sentence structure.

Maths

The children will be ordering numbers to 1,000, counting in fifties, applying number bonds within ten and adding and subtracting ones and tens. We will also focus on times tables. Every child knows which table they need to learn for next week's test.

Science

Following our work on nutrition we will be looking at food labels and the contents of food groups within a variety of foods.

Geography

Next week the children will be learning why and where we get volcanoes.

RE

It is our school Harvest Festival on Friday. We will be looking at food for celebrations including Harvest and Christmas.

D and T

The children will draw the designs for their pencil cases and learn how to sew a variety of different stitches.

IT

We will be looking at how digital devices help us.

I hope you all have a restful and happy weekend.

Ms Davis
