Week ending 25th October 2024
Happy half term holidays!
It has been a long half term and the children have worked hard! They seem to have covered so much already! We had a quiz today to see how much they remembered and they did well. They enjoyed competing in table groups!
The children are looking forward to the next half term as we do have so many exciting events coming up!
I will explain the planning for the coming half term.
Maths
We will be continuing to work on addition and subtraction up to three digits. The children will continue to learn their tables. Please use TT Rockstars at home during the holidays. Many children moved onto the next table today and I am sure that is down to having a session on TT Rockstars in school and using the programme at home.
English
Our learning will stem from the book 'The BFG,' by Roald Dahl. The children are extremely excited to begin this project.
We will have a comprehension lesson daily and spellings will be set each week as usual. The results from the spelling text today were brilliant, keep it up!
Science
Our topic will be 'Forces and Magnets.' They will be learning about pushes and pulls and magnetic force.
Spanish
Year 3 have really taken to this language. They have made rapid progress and can hold quite long conversations already. We will be learning the vocabulary for the family and where we live. We are lucky to be having a visit from a Spanish English teacher next term.
History
The children will love learning about prehistoric Britain. We will be visiting 'Celtic Harmony' (a site which allows for hands on experiences) in February.
RE
We will have our trip to The Hindu Temple in Watford on 12th November. This will trigger a huge amount of learning.
We will also be making Indian sweet treats later in the month.
We will be learning the meaning of advent and will make Christingles for Christmas Eve. We are hoping to combine this learning with a church visit.
Art
To work with our history topic, we will be looking at and learning prehistoric art. We will be using charcoal as we create cave drawings of animals.
I hope you all have a wonderful half term break and look forward to seeing you on 4Th November.
