Week ending 15th November 20204

 Hello Year Three,

We have had a fantastic week! Our trip to The Hindu Temple in Watford was amazing.

The children learned so much about this religion by experiencing it first hand. We were able to feed the animals that live there. The food is produced from the animals and vegetable garden. The children rode on a cart driven by oxen.

Lunch was delicious, a curry made from paneer, breads and chips!

We spent time in the temple experiencing the community singing and worshipping their Gods and Goddesses, as we were dressed in traditional Indian clothing.

A few photos to share our special moments with you.

George Harrison was very involved with the temple and donated a huge area of land to the community. He is remembered in a special memorial  garden where the children had to find the names of his songs.

The community at the temple are pretty much self sufficient, making their food on site.

Dressing up and using role play to learn the stories was wonderful and an experience I'm sure they won't forget.

The shrine was beautiful.

A few more pictures of the children having fun!

As you can see it was an amazing trip with lots of fantastic experiences!

We have continued to work on addition and subtraction in maths and we have got to the point of column subtraction exchanging within 100.
The children are doing extremely well with their times tables! I can see they have been using TT Rockstars! Please keep this up as they are so pleased with their progress.

For English we have been working from the book 'The BFG.' The children created a 'wanted' poster for a human eating giant. They have learned to recognise and use similes and carried out several comprehension lessons. They are building on fluency in reading as they read each week in class. This is also great for their confidence.

We have nearly completed the pencil cases and are just adding the buttons and button holes. Many children are keen to share these with you at our assembly next Friday 22nd November.

We carried out a friction investigation for our science lesson as we recorded the different heights a plank had to be raised according to the material beneath a travelling car. We tried rolling the car on carpet, a chalk board, a lego board and sand. We found the most difficult surface for the car to travel on was on sand.

We have begun rehearsals for our assembly next Friday. The children are very excited to share their learning with you.

Next Week

Maths

It will be our last week on the addition and subtraction block. Please hear your child recite their tables. Testing them for rapid recall. They are all doing so well.

English

We will continue to work from 'The BFG.' The children will be creating recipes for magical dreams, writing a diary entry for 'Sophie' in the first person and write a dialogue replacing the word 'said' with more exciting and interesting words.

Science

Next week we will be exploring magnetism. I have sent some games and activities home today which relate to the topic. The children can play these at home and complete the tasks as their home learning for this half term. I would like the task sheets returned for marking please, but the children have until Christmas to complete them.

History

We will be looking at the Palaeolithic period. We will be looking at photos of caves and think about what may have happened in them.

Spanish

Next week the children will be building on their Spanish vocabulary as they learn the names of family members.

PHSE

We will continue to look at bullying as we investigate how we celebrate differences.

Spellings

The new spellings are quite challenging, so some children have moved groups this week. This does not mean they will remain in this group for the rest of the year, but to rebuild confidence in spelling ability I feel it will be more helpful.

Class assembly

We are all looking forward to sharing our learning with you next Friday 22nd November at 9am.

Sweet Treats

As our religious focus has been Hinduism this term, the children will be making sweets for a Hindu celebration Friday 22nd November. The sweets will be vegetarian and  gluten free. We will allow the children to take the sweets home so that adult carers can decide whether or not to let the children eat them.

Have a wonderful weekend.
Ms Davis
