Year 3 Week Beginning 6th July 2026

In English, we have been learning how to use speech marks correctly in conversation writing and exploring a variety of synonyms for said. The children thoroughly enjoyed bringing their writing to life through role play, acting out conversations between characters and generating excellent ideas for their written dialogue.

We have also been using noun phrases to create vivid setting descriptions, making inferences about characters, and writing from a character’s point of view. All of this learning has supported the children as they completed their stories about the old oak tree in the school field.

To provide further inspiration, the children visited the field with colourful crayons and paper to create bark rubbings from the oak tree. This hands-on experience helped them observe the tree more closely and enrich their descriptive writing.

In Maths, we are continuing to develop our multiplication skills by multiplying double- and triple-digit numbers by a one-digit number. A key focus is on setting out calculations correctly. The children are carefully organising their work in columns, with one digit in each square and numbers separated into ones, tens and hundreds.

We have an exciting Science lesson planned for next Monday with Mrs Wilson and her collection of minibeasts and reptiles, including millipedes, cockroaches, geckos, salamanders and a bearded dragon.

The children will have the opportunity to handle the animals carefully under close supervision, or they may choose to watch calmly and listen to fascinating facts about the animals and their life cycles.

Next Friday the multiples of 10 and 100 will be tested. Both spelling groups will have the same set of words for the final week.
