Hello Year Three,

This week we completed our maths block on place value and began our new block on addition and subtraction. We spent a while revising cherry models, bar models and number sentences. We began with number bonds to ten. Please practise these at home regularly as it is a huge support to our future lessons.

We also completed our work from the book 'The First Drawing.' The children loved this book and we got so much learning from it. As their final piece they retold the story with a number of success criteria. The results were very pleasing.

We have moved on to nutrition in science and have been learning about the food groups and how we need a balanced diet for healthy living.

We have been looking at family, school and community traditions this week. The children wrote at length about the traditions they follow at home and school. They also reflected upon another culture and the celebrations they would like to experience.

For our art lesson we studied a variety of leaves and carried out observational drawings.

NEXT WEEK

English

Next week we begin 'The BFG' by Roald Dahl. The children have already discovered a jar of dreams in the classroom and are excited for this new adventure. They will be using noun phrases to describe a character, write a diary entry and recognise nouns and proper nouns.

Maths

On Monday we will begin by adding and subtracting tens. We will be moving on to add and subtract 100s, spot patterns and add ones across ten.

I have tested all the children individually this week and some have been asked to revise certain times tables as I do not want them to move on until they have rapid recall of the ones they have already learned.

Science

The children will be writing about the food groups in the science lessons. They will need to explain how each group meets a different physical and mental need for our bodies.

ART

As we draw flowers we will explore composition and scale to create abstract drawings.

Geography

As we explore the school grounds we will learn about the rocks and stones we found and where they have come from.

RE

We have our wonderful trip to The Hindu Temple on Friday next week.

Please ensure that your child attends in full school uniform. We will not need food or snacks as we are not allowed to take items into the area. Lunch will be provided and it is delicious! The children will love it. There may be an opportunity for face painting, so if you do not want your child to take part in this activity due to skin allergies please let me know.

The children are allowed to take about £5 to spend in the shop. There are items for as little as £2 or £3 . The maximum they can bring is £10.

I am very excited for Friday, this trip is a personal favourite of mine and I know the children will always remember the amazing experiences they have.

If you have any questions about the trip please come and see me before or after school any day next week.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend.

Ms Davis
