Week ending 23rd October 2026

Happy Half Term Year Three,

We have continued to focus on addition and subtraction in our maths lessons. We are working on adding 10 across 100 at the moment. This can be quite tricky so any extra practise at home would be extremely beneficial.

For English we have been learning how to write command statements and we wrote a diary entry.

Following our amazing trip to the Hindu Temple, the children were delighted to use some of the photos we took to enhance the writing they produced about Hinduism.

We completed our project on nutrition as the children wrote about foods from each food group and the benefits to our bodies.

Homework

There will be no spellings this week as it is the half term holiday. Please continue to work on the times tables using TT Rockstars and you may take this time to start thinking about your menus for the home project.

PE Kits

I have sent all PE kits home to be washed. Following the holiday please ensure that the children return with two kits. One should be for football, with a spare bag for the muddy boots. The other should be for PE outside and inside, bearing in mind the colder weather will be coming.

Goodbye and good luck

We are sad to say goodbye to two children in our class today. Pedro and Siya are both leaving today and will be starting at new schools after the holiday. We wish them all the very best. We will miss both of them.

Autumn Two

Maths

We will continue our work on addition and subtraction, which will be followed by division.

English

As we continue to read 'The BFG' we will be writing letters, diaries and newspaper reports.

Science

Our new topic will be 'Light.' We begin by looking at light sources and why we have light and dark and day and night.

History

We will be exploring pre-historic Britain. There will be a trip to 'Celtic Harmony' later in the academic year which supports this learning. The children usually love this topic and as we have just finished reading 'The First Drawing,' they are already familiar with this period.

RE

The children will learn about traditions around the world. We will learn about advent and I have booked a visit to our local church where the children will learn about Christingle. They will learn about the symbolism of Christingle. They will be making their own Christingles and taking them home.

D and T

Our topic will be British Inventors. We will be looking at past inventions and predicting what may be invented in the future. Our first lesson will be on the invention of the telephone as the children will make their own phones!

Spanish

The theme will be numbers. The children will learn to count to twenty and write most of the Spanish numbers to twenty. They will learn to tell people their age and ask others how old they are.

I wish you all a very happy and restful weekend.

Ms Davis
