Week ending 22.11 24

 Hello Year 3,

What a fun-packed week we have had! Your assembly was amazing. You enjoyed every moment which is exactly what we wanted you to feel. Here are a couple of photos from this morning.

We have also been enjoying the English work coming from reading the book The BFG. This week the children created an imaginative recipe for a fizzy drink, with lots of magical ingredients. 

The BFG is a wonderful story, but we noticed that Roald Dahl uses the word 'said' a lot. We learned different synonyms for 'said' and used them in the sentences we wrote.

We have continued to work on addition and subtraction this week. We learned how to estimate and the reasons that sometimes we do estimate. The children could estimate how much will be spent when you go shopping this weekend.

For history we are studying The Palaeolithic Period. We examined pictures of caves from this period and were able to guess what the inhabitants had been doing by looking closely at the items left behind.

In our PHSE lesson we worked from a code for solving disputes. The children know the code now and I hope will use this when they find themselves in difficult situations. 

This afternoon the children had a very special treat as they made Indian sweets called 'Barfi.' They really enjoyed making them and taking them home.  A huge thank you to the family members who made this possible.

Next Week

Maths

We will be completing the section on addition and subtraction next week and move onto multiplication and division. This will be so helpful as the children are working so hard at learning their tables. The home practise helps so much and the children that achieved their table this week were so happy. It was actually great to see them so thrilled with their own learning. Please keep up the good work and ensure your child uses TT Rockstars or any other method to learn the next set of tables they have been given.

English

Next week we will continue to carry out shared reading of The BFG. We will be learning how to use connectives to make our writing more interesting. We will be writing diary entries in the first person and a dream that the character Sophie has.

We will begin an art project where we will be using charcoal to create images of animals similar to those that the cavemen of the past left behind.

The children will all complete their pencil cases and be able to take them home next week. They will evaluate their work.

Science

We will be exploring magnets next week and discovering the materials they attract. They will use magnets to separate item into two groups. They will name magnetic and non-magnetic materials.
