Hello Year Three,
Firstly, I must apologise for not publishing my blog last week. I completed it in draft format and didn't send it at 3.30pm. The spellings for this week were on last week's blog so we will carry those over for next week. The children also have sheets to take home.
We have had a busy week, beginning on Monday by making healthy snacks. I am surprised at how healthy their choices were, many choosing wholemeal bread and lots of salad. We created a shopping list and on Monday they made them and ate them!
We also had a huge shock on Monday as we found tiny footprints in white powder, leading from my desk to the back door! We noticed that the magical jar of tears had disappeared from my desk. Many people suspect 'The Tear Thief,' but the investigation will continue.
Next week the children will be writing newspaper reports about this classroom crime!
For maths we have completed the multiplication and division block. I am astounded by how well the children are learning their times tables. Please keep this up at home as it is helping so much.
The children explored sun safety in science and designed their own sunglasses, recognising the damage that can be done to our eyes by the sun.
We explored the route Shackleton took to Antarctica by plotting points using 4-figure grid references.
Today was 'Maths' day, so we decided to collect and interpret data. We went bird spotting outside and created bar charts with the data we collected.
NEXT WEEK
ENGLISH
We will complete the work from 'The Tear Thief' by writing and editing a newspaper report. We will write book reviews. The children have enjoyed this story and so much creativity and imagination has come out of studying from it.

Next week we will begin a new unit for length and perimeter. The children will be measuring in meters, centimetres and millimetres.
History
As we will be visiting Celtic Harmony next week we will have a history focus. The children will be creating with clay!
PHSE
There will be a focus on children's mental health next week. The theme is around the movie 'Inside Out Two.' We will be exploring emotions, sharing emotions and playing games to understand our emotions. We will also be having an afternoon of creative activities. The children will be able to choose what they feel like taking part in. The activities will include, clay modelling, art, music, dance, mindfulness colouring and meditation.
Computing
As it is 'Safer Internet Day' on Tuesday next week, we will be carrying out some work on one of the other days as we will be on our visit to Celtic Harmony. Our focus will be gaming.
Class Visit to Celtic Harmony
On Tuesday we are visiting Celtic Harmony for the day. The children are very excited, especially as we have recently explored 'The Stone Age' in our history lessons. They will need warm clothes and sturdy shoes or boots. They will need a packed lunch in a plastic/paper throw away bag with their name on.
They will not need any spending money for this trip. We will be leaving school just after 9am and returning before the end of the school day.
We wish you a happy and restful weekend.
