Hello Year Three,

We have had a wonderful start to the Autumn Term. The children managed four pieces of writing for our mini project on Planet Earth. This work will be on display in the classroom from next week. Please feel free to pop in and have a look.

Spellings

Spellings will be starting next week. The children will bring home spellings on Monday and they will be tested on Friday.

Times Tables

The children will be continuing to learn the times tables in maths. They will be familiar with 2, 5 and 10. This year they will learn 3, 4 and 8 tables. A differentiated test will be carried out every Friday. The programme to support the learning of the times tables is TT Rockstars. You will be given the login details in due course.

PE Kits

In Year Three the children need two PE kits. One for football (with football boots in a separate bag) and one for PE (with trainers for outdoor PE and comfortable footwear for indoor PE).

Next Week

English

We will begin our first book, ‘The First Drawing’ by Mordicai Gerstein. The children will be using pictures to make predictions. They will research and recall facts about the Stone Age. They will recognise spelling rules for plurals and write a diary entry.

Maths

We will be learning place value to 100. We will be working on fluency with the 2,5 and 10 times tables.

Geography

The project we cover in the Autumn Term is ‘Volcanoes.’ The children are usually fascinated by this topic.

Spanish

Next week the children will learn Spanish greetings, although they are already answering the register in Spanish!

Science

We will be learning about movement and nutrition for humans and the skeletons of a variety of creatures. Next week we will focus on the human skeleton.
