Hello Year Three,
Welcome back to the Spring term!
This week we have been measuring in centimetres and millimetres. We played times table bingo today which was a great hit!
For English we have continued to work from the book ‘Escape from Pompeii.’ We carried out role play as survivors of the volcano. We wrote about the character’s feelings changing once the volcano erupted.
Our project for science is ‘Forces and Magnets.’ This week we experimented with the push and pull force.
We have begun to look at religious leaders in our RE lessons, so we discussed the qualities of a good leader.
We have been thinking about our class assembly next week and the children have chosen what they would like to share.
NEXT WEEK
Maths
We will continue to learn about measurement, as we start to measure in metres. We will begin to learn about measuring perimeters.
The children are more secure in the ten, five and two times tables now as we have been working on these daily. They will need to use TT Rockstars regularly. There will be a test every Friday.
English
Next week we will be writing a newspaper report about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Spellings have been handed out and need to be learned at home during the week.
Science
As we continue to explore forces, next week we will be planning and carrying out an enquiry to compare how objects move on different surfaces.
Geography
We will be discovering why people live in Antarctica.
Spanish
Next week we will be learning the names for different animals
D and T
Waterproof material will be the focus of our lesson next week.

Class assembly
Friday 16th January is our class assembly. The children are very excited to share the work they have been doing with you. We are looking forward to seeing you there.
Home/School Project
The children have been given instructions for the home/school project. I have explained that it may not be possible for them to create a menu for the whole day and that it is fine to just make breakfast or lunch. Creating the menu and presenting it to the class are the important parts.
Spring One
Designing and creating a nutritious menu
As we have been learning about nutrition in science, this project is a practical experience for you to expand on and consolidate your knowledge and understanding.
· Design a nutritious, tasty, appetising menu for your family for a day!
Plan carefully, ensuring you include all the food groups. Your menu needs to be appetising and the presentation should be attractive. The food needs to be tasty and nutritious.
· Once you have planned the menu, you need to prepare and serve the meals. You will need adult support and supervision for this.
· Finally, you must record the project so that you can share your experience with all of us. How you do this is your choice. You may want to produce and present a power point or create a poster. You could use photographs and present verbally.
Good Luck!
I wish you all a happy and restful weekend.
