Week ending 2nd May 2025
Hello Year Three,
We have had so much fun in the last two weeks. PGL was a huge success and the children said they had a brilliant time. It was so good to see them trying activities for the first time, even when they felt a little afraid. I have plenty of photos. I will post a selection below, but feel free to come in and see the rest some time.
I am waiting for one last camera to download the photos, so I will post some more next week.
This week we began swimming at school as well as at the Furzefield Centre.
We have also completed a lot of work this week.
For English the children have written command sentences regarding tea tasting as we have continued to work from the book 'Cloud Tea Monkeys.' They are enjoying this story! They have learned why and how to write 'an' before a word which begins with a vowel.
In maths we have been learning about mass. The children were able to have a practical session whereby they estimated and found the mass of a variety of items. They have learned how to compare mass.
For science we have been busy planting sunflower seeds and setting up an experiment to see whether one of the plants can grow in a darkened room. We have learned about seed dispersal which the children found really interesting and were able to name a variety of plants and their dispersal methods.
In our ICT lesson we are creating branching databases. They love this focus and are looking forward to next week's lesson.
We have started a new geography topic 'settlements' and the children are learning about the cities, towns and villages in the UK and what the differences are.
NEXT WEEK
English
The children will be writing a descriptive piece. They will be using the past present form of verbs, writing a letter and framing questions.
Maths
Next week we will be adding and subtracting mass, measuring capacity in litres and millilitres and finding equivalents in litres and millilitres.
Science
We will continue to learn about plants as we explore roots and shoots. Hopefully some of the children's sunflowers will be showing a shoot!
Geography
As part of our topic on 'settlements' the children will be looking at maps of the local area and noticing similarities and differences between the past and present.
ICT
The children are currently learning to create branching databases. They will continue with this next week.
RE
Our focus this half term is sacred texts. To begin this project we will be looking at texts that are important and special to us. If the children could bring a book in that is important or special to them please do so.
Spanish
We are learning about food in PHSE. Our aim is to feel confident to ask for a specific food and drink in Spanish. For those of you travelling to a Spanish speaking country this Summer we hope they can practise this at a cafe or restaurant.
PHSE
Our study is on relationships and we are beginning to look at how families have specific tasks which enhance their well-being and feeling of contribution.

Times Tables
I have gone through the tables with the children this week and they will know which tables they need to learn for next week's test. I do not want them to rush on to the more difficult sets of tables until they are confident with the easier ones. Please do not feel that they have had to begin again, it is just that I want them to be confident before moving on.
Swimming
Please ensure that the children have dry swimming costumes and towels every day, some children did miss out as they did not have their kit.
Enjoy this wonderful weather and the bank holiday!
