Week ending 06/06/25
Hello Year Three,
We had a fabulous first week back and went straight into our new projects and books!
We have started a new book for our English lessons called 'The Thames and the Tide Club,' by Katya Balen. The children love it already as it is about mudlarking (a hobby they would like to take up!)
This week we have been focussing on conjunctions with the children writing a persuasive letter as their main piece.
We have been working on comprehension following a report about 'Robin Hood.'
In our maths lessons we have learned how to add, subtract and find change with money.
The children did complete a times table challenge today and some of them asked for worksheets to take home. They do need to practise these regularly. They can also use 'Times Table Rock Stars.' They are all aware of the table they are currently learning, but please ask them to go through the lower tables too otherwise they forget them.
As you probably know we are exploring the life of Henry 8th this term. The children absolutely love this topic! They love the song on 'Horrible Histories' and are fascinated by the stories of the six wives!
We are continuing our project on 'Plants and Flowers' and this week the children were able to dissect a flower and name all the parts used to make seeds.
As you are aware our PHSE lessons will concentrate on 'Changing Me' this term. We began this today by looking at the differences between babies and young children and animals with their young.
NEXT WEEK
English
Next week we will be retrieving and recording a range of descriptive phrases. The children will then create their own. The children will be writing in role in the present perfect tense, using adverbials in diary entries and changing tense to write a weather report.

Maths
We will begin a new topic on 'Time.' We will begin on Monday with Roman Numerals. This will be followed by reading the time to five minutes and 1 minute.
There will be a times table test on Friday for the current table your child is learning.
History
Next week we will be discovering more about Henry 8th. We will be exploring the opinions held about him in his era and how we feel about him today.
Spanish
We will be revising short conversations.
Art
This week we studied Van Gogh and looked at some of his work. We practised using short brush strokes and creating swirls. Next week we will be experimenting with the colours of the paints we will be using to create our own Van Gogh art.
PHSE
We will be understanding how babies grow and develop in the mother's uterus and what a baby needs to live and grow.
Computing
The children will be learning how to explain the relationship between an event and an action. They will explain how a sprite moves in an existing project.
I wish you all a happy weekend.
