14/12/18
Hell-ho-ho-ho to you all!
One more week to go until we’ve finished our first term.
Wow. This has been a very long term and the children have managed to keep up
their hard work and determination, so well done Year 3!
Polite notice: Some Christmas cards children have been
receiving have had some sweet treats inside them. While this is an extremely
lovely and generous offer, it does unfortunately clash with the school wide
policy of children not being able to give out sweet treats. Thank you for
understanding.
The children all looked fantastic in their Christmas jumpers
today and we all thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas dinner on Thursday. What an
exciting week for us all.
It was really lovely to see so many of you at the open
evening celebrating your children’s learning and achievements. If you were
unable to attend I am more than happy to arrange another time for you to view
your children’s books, email me and we will arrange a suitable time.
This Week
Maths – This week we revised our times-tables and then from this applied it division facts; we performed division with remainders; chose a mental
strategy to solve additions and subtractions; solve word problems.
English- This week we finished our newspaper reports and started
our poetry topic. The children were exploring and performing different poems as
well as writing our very own poem about cats inspired by Tony Mitton’s The Bug
Chant.
Science – This week in science the children wrote an investigation
plan and we explored the idea of ‘fair testing’ within science.
History – We have learnt out about how people lived in the Iron
Age and the children were able to group in paragraphs all the information they
learnt about the Iron Age Era. The children have really enjoyed learning about
Prehistoric Britain.
RE- We wrote all the different things we learnt about Islam and
Muslim life from Mrs Ameen’s talk.
MFL – This week children were learning the lyrics and song Feliz
Navidad.
PSHE- Recognising that words can hurt people.
Art- The children sketched their Stone Age doll,
Om.
This week the children have been learning their times tables
with help from Percy Parker. Please find attached link so you can sing this
with your children: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3U03MC-SfQ
Next week
Just to remind you all next Friday the school will finish at
2pm.
Carol Concert Monday evening at 19:00. I really do encourage
that all children are in attendance. All children need to be in school uniform –
if children want to wear Christmas headwear this is allowed. Those children who
are reading something, if you could practise over the weekend that would be
great!
D-I-S-C-O! Attention all – it is the KS2 Christmas party
next Wednesday. The children can bring their own clothes to change into to feel
more comfortable when busting a move. This will be a very exciting day as the
children will have their pantomime on Wednesday morning.
Mrs Onley has asked if I could remind you all to return all
library books by Monday.
There is no spelling test to revise for. If you could focus
on learning the Y3/4 statutory word list (can be found on Y3 blog pages) and ‘high
frequency words’ with the children that would help with their progression
within their writing.
PE January onwards
The children will now be going swimming in January. This is
starting up in the second week back for the children. NEW PE TIMETABLE (January 2019):
Wednesday 11:00-12:00 – Swimming
Thursday 14:15-15:15 – Football
Friday 10:10-10:40 – Indoor PE
