Week ending 20th September 2024
Hello Year Three,
The children have worked so hard this week! Some brilliant fables were written and presentation is improving rapidly.
This week we have been continuing to work on place value for maths.
For English we have been exploring the famous fable 'The Hare and the Tortoise.' The children love this story and are understanding that fables have moral lessons. They worked on role play, comprehension and story recount.
In our science lesson we took a more in depth exploration of the human skeleton and we carried out an investigation to see whether the length of someone's femur aligned with the length they could jump. Ask your child what they discovered.
We began our design and technology project, which is to design, make and evaluate a pencil case. The children will be learning the skill of sewing.
Next Week
Maths
We will complete our work on place value next week as the children work on number lines to 1,000, partitioning numbers to 1,000 and comparing and ordering numbers to 1,000.
English
Next week we begin a different fable and I have chosen 'The Lion and the Mouse.' We will explore the moral of this story and use it to carry out a comprehension task, describe character traits and look into the features of fables in greater detail.
Geography
The children will be exploring how mountains are formed.
D and T
The children will design their pencil cases.
Science
As we continue to explore the human body we will be looking at nutrition next week.
Spellings
Please ensure that your child practises his/her spellings at least 3/4 times a week. They are given a sheet to take home to use for 'look, cover, spell, check.'

Reading
We are hearing each child read at least once a week, but they need to be heard most days. It helps with everything when a child can read fluently and with understanding and this is only accomplished by regular reading. Please try to hear your child read at least 3/4 times a week if not more. The more the better!
Times tables
The children are learning their times tables and are tested on a weekly basis. They are always so thrilled when they are able to move on to the next one! Could you ensure your child uses TT Rockstars and works on the correct set of tables each week. If you have any problem accessing this please let me know.
I have also given them a sheet with a test to carry out with an adult at home when the table has been learned.
Let's hope the weather stays bright for the weekend!
Many thanks
Ms Davis
