Good afternoon everyone,
We started the week wearing odd socks as a part of the national school's Anti-Bullying week. The odd socks help to remind us to be kind to one another and to celebrate our differences and to show what makes us unique.
This week we
have been studying the text, The Tear Thief by Carol Ann Duffy. It is a
modern-day fairy-tale picture book. We have been using the characters, setting
and feelings from the story to create our own sentences including similes. The
children are excellent at creating their own similes and have really brought
their sentences to life with deeper thought and imagination.
During the
maths lessons we have been focusing on the 2-, 3-, 5- and 10-times tables. We
have found the next and previous multiple of these numbers and found their
corresponding division facts. Our Spanish lesson led on perfectly with the
recall and recognition of numbers 1 – 6. We devised our own sums and had to
find the answers or missing numbers using the Spanish word.
Can you solve
this sum? Uno plus seis minus cuatro = ___________
The D&T
sessions have centred around the British inventor Alexander Graham Bell and his
invention of the telephone in 1876. We have designed and made our own paper cup
and string telephone. The telephones were differentiated by string length and
were evaluated by the categories, easy to use, clear sound, sound volume and
appearance. But the best part was designing the telephones of the future.
Our new History
topic is British Prehistory and how we knew about these historic periods, the Stone
age, Bronze age and the Iron age, when no written accounts of the periods have
ever been discovered. The children are looking at photographs of artefacts and
guessing what they are and what they maybe used for. Discovery of the
prehistoric settlement Skara Brae will be our next in-depth study, for the
children to enjoy.
After a crammed full week of learning and exercise with the PE sessions and sporting
team games, we are looking forward to the festivities of Children in Need and
wearing our own spotty clothes today.
Have a lovely weekend!
