Good afternoon Year Three,
We wrote diary entries and weather forecasts this week. The
children were able to write in the future tense for the forecast.
For maths the children completed the block on measurement.
There was great fun to be had in our science lesson as we
explored magnetic and non-magnetic materials. The children were given a variety
of magnets, iron filings and a range of household items. They had to sort them
into magnetic and non-magnetic objects.
The children enjoyed plotting a route on a world map, using
grid references. We learned about Shackleton’s voyages to Antarctica.
For design and technology we looked at the invention of the
mactintosh. The children explored waterproof materials and designed their own
item.
We had a circle session on using kind words and saying sorry
with sincerity.
Home
Project
We have had the pleasure of watching two home videos this
week. The children absolutely loved their peers create healthy, attractive
meals for their family. It was great to hear them discuss the food groups and
nutritious value in the produce they used.
As this is quite an in-depth project I have extended the end
date to Easter.
Don’t forget you do not have to create all three meals. You can also produce a menu or discuss the food you would choose.
Next Week
Maths
We begin a new maths block next week as we begin fractions. We
will be looking at the denominator, understanding the whole and then
numerators.
English
As we continue to read ‘The Thames and the Tide Club’ the
children will be working from the text. They will be creating command
sentences, writing a tourist advertisement, planning dialogue and using the
past tense to write a weather report.
