Good afternoon all!

It was so lovely to see you all this week to discuss the children and their learning. I do hope you have a great half term!

Home learning project

EXTREME READING!
Take a photo of your child reading in extreme (or at least VERY unusual) place. If you could bring these in on the first week back, I can create a display of these. If you cannot print the picture feel free to email this to me.

Mathletics - please try at least three 20 minute sessions a week.

Also, please teach the children how to tie their laces and ties (and to do up their top button on their own).

Next half-term

Maths – We will be covering mental subtraction, inverse, written addition and subtraction and problem-solving. We will also cover 2D shape, angles, lines and perimeter.

English – We will be writing a recount, reading a book as a whole class and producing writing from and inspired by the book. Finally, we will also be looking at rhyming poetry and creating our own poems.

History – In history we will be exploring prehistoric Britain. We aim to find out about early humans and the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic period. We also aim to find out about how people lived in the Bronze and Iron Age.

RE – In RE we will continue exploring Christianity and Islam. We will specifically be looking at christenings, prayer in Islam, 5 pillars of Islam, the 10 commandments, Christmas carols, Christingles and the Christmas story.

Science – In science we will be covering forces and magnets. The children will look at comparing how things move on different surfaces; noticing that some forces need contact between two objects, but magnetic forces can act at a distance; observing how magnets attract or repel each other and attract some materials and not others; comparing and grouping together a variety of everyday materials on the basis of whether they are attracted to a magnet, and identify some magnetic materials; describing magnets as having two poles; predicting whether two magnets will attract or repel each other, depending on which poles are facing.

D&T – In design and technology the children will look at joining material together and learning how to sew.

Art – The children will be creating Stone Age art with Mrs Burgess from Stormont School.
