Week ending 28th February 2025
Hello Year Three,
We have enjoyed learning about rocks this week and the children have been fascinated by exploring and identifying them.
We began our new history project, invaders and settlers. We will be learning about the Roman invasion of Britain in greater detail.
We continue to learn about measurement in metres, centimetres and millimetres and have begun to measure and compare lengths.
Today we were able to translate sentences about animals in Spanish.
Our new book is 'Escape from Pompeii' by Christina Balit. We have been writing sentences using descriptive verbs and describing the vibrant sights, sounds and smells from the city of Naples.
We were sad to say goodbye to Mrs Proudlove on Thursday. We prepared a short dance and song for her and had a little fun with her before she left. She is going to come and see the KS2 performance at the end of term.
HOME PROJECT
As we have been learning about nutrition and healthy eating I would like the home learning to reflect this. The children need to plan, prepare and produce the meals for your family for one day. This will need to be carried out with an adult present during food preparation and cooking. The children need to think about the different food groups and plan a balanced diet for your family. They need to ensure the food looks attractive and provides the nutrients required for a healthy diet. They will need to write their plans, take photos (if possible) of the food preparation and meals produced. They can create a power point or produce this work on paper. I would like them to bring their experiences and their work into school before the end of term. This work will be shared with the rest of the class. If you have any questions please pop in and see me before or after school, or send me an email.
NEXT WEEK
Next week will be a busy one as it is part of science week and we will be participating in a workshop on Wednesday. It is also 'World Book Day' next Friday. The children can come in the costume of a favourite character. Most of the day will be spent on English (book) related activities.
English
We will continue to work from our book and will be making inferences about the characters. The children will learn how to use the possessive apostrophe correctly and give advice using conditional sentences. As the story progresses they will make inferences about how the character's feelings have changed.

History
As we progress with our invaders and settlers topic the children will be exploring the Roman invasion of Britain.
ICT
We will continue to learn about branching databases and will be making groups.
Art
As we are studying the Romans and reading a book set in Naples we will enhance this learning by creating Roman mosaics. Next week we will begin to create shapes or patterns as mosaics.
I wish you all a happy and healthy weekend. Let's hope it stays sunny!
