26/10/18
Hello all!
We made it – half term is here! It was really lovely to meet
you all this week and discuss how the children have settled into Year 3. I am
really happy how the children as a whole have settled and hope they come into
the next half term with the same positive attitude for all the learning we will
be doing.
This week:
Maths – Our focus this week has been subtracting from
2-digit numbers; using prediction to estimate calculations and completing end
of term maths assessments.
English – I’m sure you are all aware we have been looking at
Limericks within our poetry unit, the children have thoroughly enjoyed this
topic. We began this week by reciting familiar limericks and then moved onto
exploring the structure of limericks and ended the week by writing our own. We
have very talented poets in this class, I’m sure those of you that managed to
look at the children’s English books were amused by the limericks they created.
Next term:

and halving numbers; fractions; money to add and subtract; add and subtract
2-digit numbers using partitioning; add three 2-digit numbers by partitioning
and recombining.
Measure a length and capacity in millilitres.
Place 2- and 3-digit numbers on a number line; round 3-digit
numbers to nearest 100
Revise times-tables learned and derive division facts;

subtractions; solve word problems.

Home
learning
Please ensure you keep using mathlectics and mathseeds during
half term.
TASK: Extreme reading!
Take a photo of the children reading in extreme (or at least
VERY unusual) place. If you could bring these in on the first week back, I can
create a display of these. If you cannot print the picture feel free to email
this to me.
Art at
Stormont
The children have really enjoyed going to Stormont this half
term for art. Next term the other half of the class will be attending. Please
ensure the children are prepared for the walk (wellies and warm coats with a
hood).
Thank you for all being so supportive during this first half
term. If there are ever any questions, worries or concerns please do not
hesitate to speak to me or email me. I hope you all have a great half term, and
if you are celebrating Halloween I hope you have a great time.
